Birdie Books is thrilled to partner with WeRISE again this year! In particular, we are happy to support the WeREAD sector of WeRISE, which is a community-wide read initiative.

WeREAD’s mission to transform community through racial justice is a wonderful cause we are proud to have in our community! This year’s WeREAD book is the graphic novel, New Kid by Jerry Craft. New Kid centers around children and the education system, and will allow for discussions on racial identity, code switching and the emotions surrounding it. As part of the programming, there will be four community discussions about the book throughout April (two virtual, two in person). Culminating the experience will be a virtual talk with the author and a local language arts teacher! In an effort to make the book accessible to all, WeRISE has purchased some copies from Birdie Books that are free for the public. Request a free copy below!
